Joe Monahan funds presented
Following the death of the much-loved Joe Monahan earlier this year the Joe Monahan Dialysis Machine Fund was set up to raise money for a dialysis machine for Tullamore ICU. Earlier this week Ita, Karen and Elaine Monahan handed over the necessary funding with over €11,000 extra. The group originally aimed towards raising €17,835 to fund the dialysis machine. The additional €11,509.68 was presented this week to Friends of the Regional Hospital Tullamore, and will go towards building a family care room. "It is with great pride and also great sadness that we are making this presentation," the Monahan family said. "Anyone who knew Joe knew how active he was with various clubs and organisations around the county. He was always willing to help others in whatever way he could. His enthusiasm to make a difference was the main motivator behind the setting up of the Joe Monahan Dialysis Machine Fund. We wanted to honour his memory by providing something essential and helpful to the hospital that cared so well for him during his illness." It was the support of those who donated who helped the fund fly past its original target however. "There are so many people we would like to thank t hat naming them individually would be impossible," the family said. "So to all our family and friends, to each individual, group, club or organisation that contributed to the fund, whether the donations were small or large, please accept our most heartfelt thanks and join us in celebrating the fact that through your generosity and Joe's memory we have surpassed our target. We can proudly close The Joe Monahan Dialysis Machine Fund having raised €29,344.68.
