"Dark Horse" for Birr Theatre
Birr Film Club presents "Dark Horse" at Birr Theatre and Arts Centre on Tuesday next, January 22. The 2011 film stars Jordan Gelber, Selma Blair, Mia Farrow, Christopher Walken and Donna Murphy and is directed by Todd Solondz. "Dark Horse" is described as a somewhat more lighthearted Todd Solondz effort than usual. The anti-hero of the movie is Abe, a self-absorbed and unsympathethic loser who still lives with his parents. Abe's good fortune lies in the fact that his self image doesn't correspond with reality, so it is in good spirits - with a hefty dose of imagination - that he sets about finding love. The object of his favour ends up being the depressed Miranda, and a veritable catalogue of failures ensue. Tickets to the 8pm screening are available at €7, €5 and €3.
