PDC World Darts Championship - yet more golden arrows

For a number of reasons, the 2013 Ladbrokes World Darts Championship will be remembered as one of the best ever. There were some magical moments which lit up the stage at the Alexandra Palace, with the world's best players performing when they needed to the most. When it comes to finding highlights from the event, there's so much to choose from.

Van the man close to double perfection

As second favourite with ladbrokes to win the tournament before a dart was thrown, a lot was expected of Michael van Gerwen. Coming into his semi-final match against James Wade, he knew he had to play well in order to reach his first ever world championship final. On his way to victory, the 23-year-old Dutchman almost achieved an unbelievable feat - hitting back-to-back nine-dart finishes. After hitting his first nine-darter of the match, he was one dart at double 12 away from making it two in successive legs.

Jackpot bows out with dignity

Looking for his third successive world championship, Adrian Lewis was hoping to become only the second player in history to win three in a row, but only just fell at the quarter-final stage to van Gerwen. Lewis had a chance to win late on in the final set, but just missed double 20. After defeat, Lewis looked gutted but showed great respect for his conqueror.

Taylor makes it sweet 16

Viewed by record audiences in Ireland, the UK, Netherlands and elsewhere in the world, the final between Phil Taylor and van Gerwen promised so much, and it delivered. Having raced into a 4-2 lead in sets, it looked like the Dutch ace would deny The Power a chance to add to his 15 world titles. Fortunately for Taylor's huge fan base, it didn't happen. He reeled off five consecutive legs to secure the Sid Waddell Trophy with some amazing finishing and scoring that left Mighty Mike for dead.

Winstanley goes over the top

Michael van Gerwen wasn't the only player to hit a famous nine-dart finish at the Ally Pally. Debutant Dean Winstanley managed the feat against Vincent van der Voort in the second round, and his reaction was every bit as memorable as the leg itself. After hitting it, he ran to both ends of the stage in excitement. There were so many other highlights to talk about at the tournament. Scott Rand's swaggering in his victory over Kim Huybrechts, the second round epic between Kevin Painter and Ronnie Baxter plus Gary Anderson hitting 19 180's in his last-gasp victory against John Bowles all stand out.
