Dubai appeal court reduces jail sentence for Tullamore man

A Tullamore man convicted of having sex with a British woman in the back of a Dubai taxi has today (Tuesday, February 5) had his jail sentence reduced by a third on appeal. Twenty-nine year old Conor McRedmond was sentenced to three months in jail and a fine of 3,000 dirhams (€635) in late November after being convicted of having sex, indecency and drinking alcohol in public. Thirty year old Rebecca Blake from Surrey was convicted on the same charges. The pair had originally been arrested on May 4, 2012. Today on appeal Mr McRedmond and Ms Blake - who pleaded guilty to drinking alcohol in public but denied both other charges - saw their prison sentences reduced from three month terms to two month terms. Both Mr McRedmond and Ms Blake will be deported after serving their sentences. Fine amounts imposed on both were also reduced today. The two appeared before Dubai Appeal Court on January 22, but had to wait until today to hear the outcome of their appeal.
