Tullamore councillor to suggest new bridge be named in honour of Fiona Pender

Sinn Fein councillor Brendan Killeavy is expected to propose a motion that a new canal bridge planned for Convent View in Tullamore be named in honour of missing Tullamore woman Fiona Pender at a meeting of Tullamore Town Council this evening (Thursday).

The motion from Cllr Killeavy is the only one that appears on the council meeting agenda. The meeting is due to take place this evening at 5pm in Tullamore Town Hall.

“I call on this Town Council to name the new bridge on Convent View the Fiona Pender Bridge,” Cllr Killeavy’s motion states. “Given the fact that Fiona has been missing for over 16 years now and that she used the old footbridge on a daily basis down through the years, I think it would be a fitting tribute to Fiona and the Pender family.”

The new bridge being constructed over the canal at Convent View is part of the Tullamore Grand Canal Corridor Project. The project includes plans for three bridges and a canal boardwalk.
