Daingean film to be screened on RTE next week

A film made in Daingean and starring local actor Paul Keating is set to make its national debut on RTE Television next week. The film entitled “Bogman” is the story of a quiet man whose lonely existence takes a mysterious turn when he uncovers something strange while out footing turf.

Already the film has won a Best Short Film award and has played at numerous film festivals, following its premiere at the Omniplex in Tullamore on Culture Night in 2011.

The star of the film Paul Keating makes a compelling on screen debut in “Bogman”, and has since gone on to star in a number of other short films. Director of “Bogman” Garret Daly describes Paul’s work onscreen  as “amazing” and says that Keating “gives a sublime natural performance”. “He’s captivating to watch and makes the story come alive,” he added.

Producer of Bogman Martina McGlynn notes that film “is a strange odd tale, that simply unfolds a quirly short story. It’s a little twist of normality, but it was fun to make here in Offaly.”

The majority of the film was shot in Little Island outside Daingean, but other locations such as Seerys pub in the town feature in the film.

The film was produced by the Daingean based company Mixed Bag Media, who last year produced a very successful documentary on the Grand Canal called “A Grand Experience”. The film, which was shown on RTE, is also currently screening on all Aer Lingus transatlantic flights. The company are now in pre-production of a feature film, “A Nightingale Falling”, with filming due to take place later this summer.

Viewers will have the chance to watch Paul Keating star in this latest Offaly short film “Bogman” on RTE 2 on Monday, April 15 at 23:35pm. The film will also be available on the RTE Player for two weeks.
