Pauline Curley won the ladies race at the annual Athlone IT 5k run.

Harriers compete in road relays as Curley shines in AIT


The Woodies DIY National Road Relay Championships took place in Raheny last Sunday, with a record turnout of 250 athletes taking part. 

This highly competitive event features teams of three running one and two mile relay legs on a spectator-friendly course around the North Dublin village.

Tullamore Harriers had two teams in action in the Master Men’s event. In the O-35s race, Catch Grennan ran the first one-mile leg in 4.51 before handing over to John Harkin who clocked 10.44 for his two miles with Dave Fox completing the anchor leg of one mile in 5.14. Their combined time of 20.49 left them in 10th place overall out of 18 teams. The winning team was Rathfarnham WSAF with a time of 19.32.

Johnny Feery took the first leg for Harriers in the O-50s race clocking 5.34 for his mile. Martin Carroll took the next two-mile leg, running 12.05, before handing over to Liam Dunne, who ran a final 5.38 mile. These times gave a total time of 23.17, earning them 6th place overall. Tallaght AC took the honours in that race with an overall time of 21.31.

AIT 5th Annual 5K Race
Pauline Curley won the ladies race at the AIT 5k on Sunday in a time of 17.58. A total of 110 runners turned out for what was a tough course on a windy day.
Also in action for Tullamore Harriers were Eamon Henry who was third in 17.51; Jodie O’Reilly, who was 5th in 18.12; and Mark Donegan, who was 7th in 18.34.
Proceeds from the event went to AIT’s Student Hardship Fund and the Athlone branch of the IHCPT, who bring disabled children to Lourdes.
