First Pat Jones Memorial Bursary winner to be revealed tonight

Six Edenderry students will find out which one of them has been chosen as the winner of the first Edenderry Credit Union Pat Jones Memorial Bursary tonight (Saturday).

The bursary will see the winner receive €2,000 for three years to help with the cost of third level education, while five runners-up will each get €500.

Pat Jones from Rhode was involved with Rhode Comhaltas and 905 Cycling Club. He was also a valued member of Edenderry Credit Union, serving as supervisor for many years before his sudden death in 2012.

As a mark of respect for him, Edenderry Credit Union introduced the first Pat Jones Memorial Bursary this year, aimed at students sitting the Leaving Cert and hoping to get a place in a third level course in September.

Three students from Oaklands College - Kellie McGee, Michelle Mulligan and Noel O’Neill - have been nominated for the bursary, while another three from St Mary’s Secondary School - Edel Quinn, Laura Kearney and Darren Walsh - have also been nominated.

A panel of management and directors of Edenderry Credit Union have interviewed all six students, and a bursary winner will be announced tonight.

The announcement will be made at a special dinner and awards ceremony for students, family members and teachers in the Credit Union’s conference room.
