Extended Clara centre closure revised

Clara Day Care Centre will close for just two weeks this summer and not the three expected earlier this week, Independent councillor Dervill Dolan has confirmed.

The centre traditionally closes for two weeks, however this year that period was to be extended - keeping the facility shut from August 5 to August 23.

Speaking to the Offaly Independent today (Thursday) Cllr Dolan said the HSE has now agreed to a closure period of August 6-19.

Earlier this week local Fianna Fail representative Frank Moran said the announcement of the additional week of leave at such short notice placed undue pressure on families and left little time to arrange care for day care centre users, most of whom are in their 80s and have limited mobility.

Welcoming the news Cllr Dolan said he was particularly appreciative of assistance in resolving the matter from local HSE community services manager Nick Devery.
