New record set in Daingean as Rigney wins Ballycumber 10k

The long-established Daingean 5K attracted a very competitive field for last Friday’s race. Over 150 runners took part with eight different clubs represented.

The winner, Toss Hayes from Kilkenny City Harriers, set a new course record of 15.32. Second place went to Colm Burke of St Abban’s (15.54) with Paul Campbell third (16.00). The women’s race was won by Tullamore’s Pauline Curley in 17.47 with Charlotte Kearney (Donadea) second in 17.53 and Michelle Cox (Newbridge) third in 19.05. The race route had been changed for this year’s race with runners completing a lap of the town before heading out into the countryside then back into town for the finish.

There were favourable comments all round on the new route from those taking part.
