Tullamore artist's exhibition nears close

Art lovers have just two more days to check out Tullamore native Aimee Gillen’s exhibition.

Mullingar’s Bressie opened the exhibition entitled “Nexus” last Friday, August 23 at the Sol Art Gallery on Dawson Street in Dublin.

The solo exhibition can be viewed from 10am until 6pm until Thursday, August 29.

Speaking to the Offaly Independent today (Tuesday), 26-year-old Aimee said she’s delighted with how the exhibition is going. While she says it’s often hard to tempt people to events in Dublin, her exhibition has been visited by hoards of people. Today Irish model Roz Purcell even dropped in for a look at the 20-piece show.

Well-known Aimee is based between Dublin and Tullamore, where her parents Kathleen (nee Spollen) and Seamus live. Explaining the concept behind her latest exhibition, Aimee says it’s that everything is linked.

“‘Nexus’ actually means a centre, a connection,” she said. “The whole body of work is based on the idea that everything is connected.”

Aimee will from December be working with a New York gallery, and before that her work will be on view at the RDS Art Fair in November. Works from “Nexus” begin at €250 and work upwards, and even with two days to go Aimee said sales are “fantastic”.

Aimee studied at Crawford College of Art and Design at Cork Institute of Technology from 2007 until 2009, graduating with a BA in Fine Art and Design.

Since then she has worked on self-initiated and commissioned projects along with taking part in various exhibitions.
