Irelands biggest free standing post box is coming to tullamore

Tullamore is set to become home to the biggest free standing post box in Ireland.

There will be a flurry of excitement and activity around O’Connor Square in Tullamore as Santa’s Giant Post Box is carefully negotiated into position beside the Christmas Tree on Thursday, December 4.

Standing over 5m high and weighing a tonne or two, the post box will arrive in four sections to be carefully assembled before the first letter is officially posted on Friday.

Children of Offaly who have entered the competition have been waiting in baited breath to see who is chosen to post the first letter. The winning child and their family will be invited to a special posting ceremony on Friday, December 5 at 5.30pm.

The Council Choir (under the stewardship of Andrius Kozlovskis) will create a festive atmosphere of Christmas Carols, before Santa’s elves help with the first letter posting.

Everyone is welcome to witness the first posting and sing a jingle bell or two to herald Santa’s Giant Post Box arrival to Tullamore. Letters to Santa are welcome at any time and the elves will return on Saturday, December 13 and 20 to empty the post box.
