Offaly schools to benefit under summer works scheme

A total of 16 Offaly schools are set to benefit under this year’s Summer Works Scheme.

She was speaking after the Minister for Education, Jan O’Sullivan, announced a €36 million investment in 559 schools across the country as part of the Summer Works Scheme in 2015.

“This is great news for children, parents and teachers rights across Offaly,” said Deputy Marcella Corcoran Kennedy. “The funding is to be used for improvements to the external environment of the schools, structural improvements, window repairs and curricular requirements.”

Schools set to benefit include St Ciarans Mixed NS, SN Mhuire Bainrioghan, SN Muire Bainrion, SN Naomh Philomena, Arden BNS, Daingean NS, St Brendans Monastery, SN Naomh Eoin, Scoil Mhuire, St Colmans NS, Scoil Mhuire Agus Chormaic, SN Naomh Brighde Buach, Ard Scoil Chiarain Naofa, St Mary’s Secondary School,  St Brendan’s CS and Geashill NS.

Deputy Corcoran Kennedy said the scheme should benefit local builders. “It is important that we invest in our children’s education and this means looking after their environment as well as the curriculum.
