It's official Tullamore to host National Ploughing Championships in 2016

A site at Screggan, Tullamore, has been confirmed as the location for the 2016 National Ploughing Championships in what is a huge boost for county Offaly.

At the conclusion of the current championships near Stradbally in Laois today, The National Ploughing Associaion Managing Director Anna May McHugh announced that the 85th National Ploughing Championships would be held on a superb, centrally located site in Screggan, Tullamore, from September 20 to September 22.

It's estimated that visitors to the Championships spend some €36.5 million during the three days of the event. This spending resulted in a tax take of over €6.6 million for the National Exchequer.

Some 280,000 people attended the championships in Stradbally this wee.
