Appeal over fatal collision in Laois

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following the death of a pedestrian in Co Laois.

The 64-year-old man was struck by a car and seriously injured on the N80 at Dysart, Portlaoise at around 8.30pm on Monday evening.   

The man was treated at the scene by emergency services before being removed to Portlaoise General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the car, a man in his 50s, was uninjured.

A stretch of the N80 between Stradbally and Bloomfield is currently closed to traffic and local diversions are in place. Garda Forensic Collision Investigators are due to examine the scene this morning. The Coroner has been notified.
