Major crackdown on speeding underway

Almost 14,000 vehicles were checked for speed in the first two hours of operation ‘Slow Down’ this morning.

An Garda Síochána and GoSafe are carrying out the large scale national speed enforcement operation between 7am this morning Friday, May 27 and 7am on Saturday morning.

The objective is to reduce the number of speed related collisions, save lives and reduce injuries on the roads. The speed enforcement blitz includes the 355 new enforcements zones recently approved by gardai.

Chief Superintendent Aidan Reid of the Garda National Traffic Bureau thanked drivers who continue to drive within the speed limit and reiterated the message, to all motorists, to drive safely and slow down.

Since 7am this morning GoSafe has checked the speed of 13,454 vehicles with 25 detected travelling in excess of the posted speed limit.
