Irish captain Seamus Coleman with Reece and Cody Kenny from Blue Ball, Co Offaly.

Letter to Coleman goes viral

Brothers Reece (5) and Cody (7) Kenny from Blueball truly have hearts of gold, or even green white and gold, after their letter to Seamus Coleman went viral.

The pair met Seamus ahead of the World Cup qualifier against Wales that saw the Irish captain suffer a double leg break.

Both were at the match and had no idea how bad the Donegal man’s injury was until it came time to leave the grounds of the Aviva stadium when fans in front of them looked it up on their phones.

'It was Reece’s idea to write the letter,' explains mum Michelle.

'Reece had an interview live on radio this morning and now he think's he's famous. Cody didn't want to speak, he's too shy. But their teachers are making a lot of it and praising them for being so thoughtful, so they're delighted,' she tells the Offaly Independent.

Both Reece and Cody attend Coolanarney NS.

Michelle explains how the two brothers came to meet Seamus.

'They're mad soccer fans and we always bring them to every game. We went to the hotel the team was staying at the day before the game and they met a good few of the players, but Seamus Coleman was the one they really wanted to meet.

'He was lovely to them. He was really friendly and asked them their names and signed a football for them. Then during the game it was hard to see what actually happened because it wasn't shown.

'But coming out in the crowd there was a couple of guys looking it up on their phones and Cody actually got very upset, he couldn't stop crying. So Reece said they should write a letter to Seamus.

'They felt because they met him and because he made so much of them that they actually knew him and they felt very sorry and upset for him.'

Since then Michelle Tweeted the message to Coleman, the FAI and Umbro retweeted the picture of Reece and Cody meeting Seamus, as well as their get well wishes.

'To Seamus, I love you. You are the best soccer player,' they wrote the Irish captain.

'You are our hero. We were at the match and were so sad for you that your bones are broken. We hope you get better really soon. Love from Reece Kenny (5) and my brother Cody (7).'

And if the young boys wishes is anything to go by, we're sure Seamus Coleman will be back on his feet in no time!
