Offaly YouTube star to appear on Late Late Show

An Offaly native who has a massive global following for his YouTube videos will be one of Ryan Tubridy's guests on the Late Late Show tomorrow evenng (Friday, February 23).

'Jacksepticeye' - whose real name is Sean McLoughlin - became a YouTube phenomenon in recent years.

He currently has over 18 million subscribers to his lively and colourful videos, most of which involve him playing and commentating on video games.

Sean (28) lived and recorded his videos in an apartment in Athlone for a number of years before moving to Brighton, England, last May.

His mother, Florrie McLoughlin, said many people wrongly thought her son was from Athlone but that he was "a Cloghan man through and through."

"He's a great lad and he never gave us an ounce of bother from when he was a child. So I'm delighted for him, that he's doing so well," she said.

Sean studied hotel and leisure management in college in Athlone and started out making YouTube videos as a hobby. The popularity of his videos began to skyrocket in 2014, and this led to him becoming a full-time online video creator.

In an interview with the Westmeath Independent early last year, he said his success on YouTube changed his life “in every way possible.”

“I'm way busier than I've ever been but I'm doing something I have such an incredible passion for that I enjoy being that busy,” he said.

“I have had a lot of opportunities open up for me and it's very humbling to hear stories from people who watch my content.”

He stated that the majority of his YouTube followers - around 60% - are based in the United States, while some 4-8% of the subscribers are in Ireland.

His success has led to the recent announcement of a Jacksepticye US tour with his stage show, 'How Did We Get Here?'

The tour will be taking place in late March and early April, and it will involve shows in Dallas, Austin, Houston, New Orleans, Orlando, Atlanta, Durham North Carolina, Philadelphia, Washington DC and Boston.

His appearance on the Late Late Show is expected to involve a general chat about his life and career, how he got started on YouTube, and how he has forged a successful career on the video streaming website.

The Late Show gets underway on RTE One at 9.35pm on Friday.
