Thieves cut hole in supermarket's roof

Gardai in Tullamore have launched an investigation after burglars cut a hole in the roof of a supermarket before making off with cash and cigarettes.

It is believed that the break-in at the Dunnes Stores supermarket on Church Road occurred in the early hours of Wednesday (March 13) between four and six in the morning.
The perpetrators gained access to the supermarket, one of two Dunnes operate in the town, by cutting a whole in the roof.

The break-in at the local supermarket bears a number of similarities to a spate of burglaries carried out in the Midlands last year.

Meanwhile, Gardai have recovered a quanity of stolen property including a jeep and trailer following a search at the property at Monasteroris, Edenderry at the weekend.

Gardai from Tullamore and Edenderry joined forces for the operation during which power tools an an outboard boat engine were also recovered.

The jeep that was recovered was stolen in County Kildare, while Gardai believe that the trailer was recently taken from a property in Rhode.
