Things looking up for Kilbeggan singer

Even as 2019 comes to a close, things are still looking up for country star Larissa Tormey, who resides in Kilbeggan.

The singer/songwriter has climbed all the way to the #2 spot on the Irish Country Music Radio Airplay chart with her new single, ‘Why Don’t You Love Me’.

Released towards the end of September, the track is a cover version of the Hank Williams classic.

Irish country fans might be familiar with the song from Daniel O’ Donnell’s album of a few years back, ‘The Hank Williams Songbook’.

But whether they remember it or not, fans have clearly and quickly taken to Larissa’s version, much to the delight of the lady herself.

“I’m so happy to see my new single so high in the country radio charts! I can’t thank everyone involved with country radio enough for playing it.

“And of course to all of the listeners out there who have been requesting it, too.

“It’s such an honour for me to see just artists like Derek [Ryan] and Cliona [Hagan] above me at the moment with their new duet.

‘‘Why Don’t You Love Me’ was such a fun song to record, and we made sure to make a video that had that same sense of fun running through it as well.

“Hank Williams could write such beautiful and heartbreaking songs, but he also knew how to write much more light-hearted material, too. And ‘Why Don’t You Love Me’ is definitely one of those songs!” It’s been a great week for Larissa as far as charts are concerned, in fact.

The Kilbeggan-based singer also made the Top 10 of Pure M magazine’s Acoustic/Live Music Videos chart, and she’s in pretty serious company. Larissa’s beautiful cover of ‘Ave Maria’ makes it in at #10, while the full Top 10 also includes The Script, KeyWest, Hudson Taylor, and The Coronas.

Larissa also made her Northern Ireland debut recently when she was a special guest at a event in Crossgar, Down, alongside last year’s Glor Tire champion John Rafferty.
