Shannonbridge GAA extends helping hand to local community

Like so many GAA clubs and other sporting organisations, Shannonbridge GAA is playing its part in helping people deal with the ongoing Covid-19 situation.

Last year, Shannonbridge won the Offaly Intermediate football title and went on to reach the Leinster Junior FC final, defeating Fenagh of Carlow of Roche Emmets (Louth) along the way. Shannonbridge's hopes of Leinster glory were eventually ended by Rathgarogue Cushinstown of Wexford, but it was an exciting adventure for the club nonetheless.

But with all GAA fixtures and training suspended up to and including April 19, and most likely longer than then, the Shannonbridge club is now turning his attention to on-field matters in a very positive way.

In common with a number of clubs, Shannonbridge has provided a list of volunteers who have made themselves available to assist members of the community, particularly older members, who may require help with collecting shopping and prescriptions, in addition to other tasks.

The following is a list of executive members, players and members of Shannonbridge GAA who are available to assist, and their contact numbers:
Tony Rohan: 086 8822451; Packie Brazil: 086 3578428; Niamh Egan: 086 3320017; Vincent Costello: 087 9010340; Dorothy Darcy: 087 763242; Trevor Mahon: 086 8171147; Mark Samuels: 086 8204568; Síle Ryan: 086 1520350; Lucy Quirke: 087 7519187; Jason Mahon: 086 8211559; Darragh Fitzgerald: 085 1505959; Anthony Kelly: 087 6431033; Declan Rohan: 086 8343290; Niall O’Shea: 086 8627000; Peadar Kelly: 085 8278400; Jack Ryan: 085 2082122; Barry Rohan: 086 2686585; Ciarán Brazil: 086 2076445; Paula Claffey: 087 6891036; Marty Kilduff: 087 9300637; Colleen Fitzgerald: 087 2072044; Vincent Darcy: 086 8064253; John Murphy: 087 2783373; Edel Larkin: 083 0404449.

"Please share this information, particularly with those who tend to be the most vulnerable in our community. We as a club are more than willing and are happy to help out those in our community in the best way that we can," said a club spokesperson.

Club members have been urged to take note of HSE directives and comply with best practice to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Meanwhile, the Shannonbridge GAA Lotto is cancelled until further notice. All tickets bought will be included in next lotto draw whenever that is held. This decision has been reached in the interests of the safety of the club lotto committee, members and supporters.
