Superb opportunity for budding Offaly screenwriters

FilmOffaly are searching for emerging Offaly writers and filmmakers to take part in a Professional Development Programme. The programme aims to support writers of natural talent with unique and original voices by providing them with an insight into writing for film, television and screen media along with an overview of the film industry from a writer’s perspective.

FilmOffaly have commissioned professional script writer, producer and director Helen Flanagan to deliver the programme. Helen regularly works as a script editor and developer on TV projects too. Her work as a writer and director has been funded by Screen Ireland, TG4 and Filmbase amongst others.

The programme is an exciting opportunity for four writers to participate in an intensive one-to-one focused support and is of interest to writers, filmmakers, arts practitioners and creatives who wish to learn about, and develop their skills in storytelling for the screen. It will guide participants through the process of writing a screenplay from initial idea to final draft in a collaborative and fun environment. On completion of the programme writers can expect to have a broader and more significantly enhanced understanding of screenwriting, as well as at least one finished screenplay.

This entire programme is offered with no costs to the participants. Applicants do not need to come from a film-writing background but must be able to demonstrate a genuine instinct for storytelling.

This unique professional development programme delivered by Helen is specifically aimed at writers, filmmakers, arts practitioners and creatives from or located in Offaly and is provided as part of FilmOffaly’s commitment to supporting filmmakers and film production in the region.

FilmOffaly and Laois Offaly Education Training Board will also be launching a series of workshops in September 2020 which are complimentary to the development programme.
