Senior Division title for Birr Town

Birr Town secured the CCFL Senior Division crown with a rout of Clara Town on Wednesday night.

Shane Corboy's side needed a win in what was their final league game to ensure the title went to Frank O'Connell Park.

Two early goals from Nathan Williams settled any nerves and Birr coasted to victory with a 9-0 victory over an understrength and youthful Clara side.

There were hat tricks for both Nathan Williams and David McEvoy and further goals from Nicky Molloy, Declan Cahill and Ronan Bergin.

The key game was probably a 1-0 away win to Derry Rovers a fortnight ago – which swung the pendulum very much in favour of the South Offaly side.

And the Birr outfit will now have their eye on a sensational double as they are the only top division side left in the last four of the Counties Cup.

Birr's passage to the semi-final of the premier local knockout competition came after a 5-4 penalty shoot out victory against Mullingar Town last weekend after the game had finished 1-1 in 90 minutes.
