Oaklands class of 2020 spread their wings

Students from Oaklands Community College in Edenderry are spreading their wings far and wide as they celebrated success in the CAO offers following fantastic Calculated Grades results at the school. Among the variety of courses accepted by students are Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Psychology, Primary Teaching, Science and Arts.

With a top score of 613 points, Alan Harte has accepted a place to study Pharmacy at University College Cork. Although he does not know anyone else heading to the Munster university, Alan is confident that his interest and participation in sport will help him to mix and become involved in college life.

Also with a top score of 613 points, Niamh Lawlor had no need to worry about points inflation in the CAO as she received her first choice of Arts in Maynooth. Niamh intends to pursue a degree in French and Music with a view to post-primary teaching in the future.

Also heading to the Kildare University is Gary O’Connor who had no problem securing his place on a Science Degree at Maynooth with a points total of 602. A number of other students at Oaklands Community College will also head to Maynooth University to commence other wide ranging degree programmes including Finance and Business.

With 555 points, Molly Kane was offered her top choice of an Applied Linguistics Degree at the University of Limerick, however she has decided to take one year out to prepare for her future education and to upskill in areas such as learning how to drive.

Recipient of this year’s Pat Jones Bursary from Croí Laighean Credit Union, Leanne Mallen was delighted to accept her first choice Degree programme and is heading to UCD to study Politics and International Relations with Irish.

Principal of Oaklands Community College, Mr Brian Kehoe is delighted to have met some of the successful students from the class of 2020 and commented that the uptake of Third Level places this year is a huge success for the school and the students. He stated that a number of students have taken up Degrees in Primary Teaching, Psychology, Physiotherapy and Pharmacy with a steady interest and success in courses such as Arts, Sciences and Business. He also noted that two students from the school had been accepted on coveted courses at the National College for Art and Design in Dublin.
