Tullamore student to appear in new TG4 documentary about Covid-19 lockdown

A 2020 Leaving Cert student from Tullamore is among those who will be appearing in a new TG4 documentary about life during the Covid-19 lockdown.

Aisling Gallagher will be featured in the one-hour film 'Saol Faoi Ghlas' which will air on TG4 on Wednesday week (November 18).

The documentary explores the challenges which people in various parts of the country faced between April and September as they attempted to cope with an unprecedented time in Ireland’s history.

Aisling found herself studying online and wondering if her Leaving Cert exams would take place at all. Her dreams of studying in Trinity College were compromised as her final milestones in secondary school disappeared.

On returning to school for the final time, Aisling said: "I'm back in school today for the last time. It's strange now because everything is still where it was when I left nine weeks ago.

"You would think I would be happy to be finished school and that's true, I won't have to wear a uniform again. Or write an essay on the education system in Ireland. But at the same time I'm heartbroken.

"The life I had in school is over and I never had the chance to say goodbye to my teachers or my school."

The film also follows other people dealing with the challenges such as working from home, caring for others, grappling with health vulnerabilities, coping with the enforced closure of a business, and preparing to give birth during the pandemic.

* 'Saol Faoi Ghlas' will be broadcast on TG4 on Wednesday, November 18, at 9.30pm.
