Festive Christmas parade set for Clara this weekend

Clara is preparing itself for it's first virtual Christmas parade this Sunday evening.

The online parade is the brainchild of local man Bertie McMahon, who has organised the town's St Patrick's day parade for many years.

In addition to the St Patrick's Day parades, Bertie has previously organised special Christmas parades through the town centred around the Goodbody's canteen and BOPA children's parties many years ago.

Bertie has a large archive of videos from these parades and has dipped into those memories for Sunday's event. The parade will feature a Christmas sing-along as well as memories from the 1988 Christmas parade (with MC Ricey Scully) and 1977 Christmas parade. These feature The incredible Hulk, Wanderly Wagon, Ed the talking horse, The Lambert puppet theatre and a hilarious wrestling match.

Musicians included in the sing-along include local men Speedy McCormack, Paddy Bracken as well as guest musicians Dave Lalor and Tony Allen.

Bertie McMahon would like to thank Lloyd Bracken, Barry Flynn, and Peter Kelly for their assistance in putting the parade together.

It can be viewed on the 'Little Town Media' social media platforms from 5pm this Sunday, December 20th.
