Fire forces temporary closure of Tullamore butcher shop

One of the best-known butcher shops in Tullamore has been forced to temporarily close its doors following a fire on the premises over the weekend.

PJ Grennan Quality Foods on Kilbride Street experienced a fire on the premises in the early hours of yesterday morning, Sunday, January 10, which has forced the popular local business to remain closed "for the forseeable time" according to proprietor, Ken Grennan.

Having already faced a very challenging year due to Covid-19, this is yet another severe blow to PJ Grennan Quality Foods which has been in business since 1983 at its current location.

In a Facebook post, Ken Grennan and his staff thanked members of Tullamore Fire Brigade and local Gardai who attended at the scene in the early hours of yesterday morning, and they also extended thanks to their neighbours on Kilbride street.

Although he acknowledged that he was posting details about the weekend fire "with a heavy heart" Ken Grennan struck a hopeful and positive note by saying that his business "like this great town (of Tullamore) will rise from the ashes."

Having already experienced a short closure last week, Ken said the business had received "such great support" and he expressed the hope that the popular local butcher shop will be back "better than ever."

As well as supplying quality fresh meats, PJ Grennan Quality Foods also has an in-house bakery, and provides a wide range of readymade daily meals which are freshly prepared on the premises. It also has a full salad bar, and provides a wide range of made to order sandwiches, wraps and baps to go.
