Gardai fine people outside their 5km area in Offaly this weekend

Gardai in Offaly have issued fixed charge notices, which involve a fine of €100, to people well outside their 5km limit this weekend.

Laois/Offaly Gardai said they were on duty at the weekend and found that while the vast majority of the public were compliant, there were people who don't want to take the advice to adhere to public health regulations.

Gardai said they had issued fixed charged notices to people well outside their 5km limit and also turned back vehicles after cautioning drivers.

They also noted they had encountered a number of cycling enthusiasts who were well outside their area.

"An Garda Síochána has repeatedly appealed to people to adhere to public health regulations and not to travel beyond 5km of their homes. An Garda Síochána has repeatedly advised people not to park illegally at public amenities as it could hinder access by emergency services."
