Tolu releases stunning video shot in Tullamore

Hot on the heels of her stunning success with a cover of the Saw Doctors classic ‘N17’ with the RTE Concert Orchestra, Tullamore singer/songwriter Tolu Makay has released a new music video shot entirely in her home town for a powerful new song called 'You Are Enough.'

The Nigerian-born singer, who came to Tullamore with her family when she was very young, has been at Number 1 in the iTunes Irish singles charts with her poignant orchestral version of N17’ since it was released by Rubyworks/Welcome To The New World in early January, and has been tipped as one of the most promising young stars of the future on the Irish music scene.

Having been raised in Tullamore, Tolu Makay was very anxious to shoot her new music video in the town, and she managed to assemble a very impressive pool of local talent for the video.

Daingean native, Martina McGlynn, produced the fast-paced, slick video, and said the opportunity to work with the young Tullamore singer/songwriter was “very special as she is one of the most exciting voices breaking through on the Irish music scene.”

Martina said she was drawn to Tolu’s “voice and lyrics” and really wanted to capture her “striking presence on the streets of the town where she grew up.” She adds that “in many ways the video is a snapshot of the beginning, starting in a small town with big dreams, to finding the confidence to achieve anything you want.”

The production crew spent a freezing cold weekend shooting the video in Tullamore last November in the midst of the Covid-19 lockdown, and Martina McGlynn said Tolu Makay was “incredibly kind and thoughtful and open to my vision for her song ‘You Are Enough’ ”

A combination of “good humour, hard work and sheer good luck” resulted in an extremely professional music video that ”not only showcases Tolu Makay’s songwriting skills, but her dancing and acting prowess too,” according to Martina McGlynn, who added that the people of Tullamore showed great kindness to the crew, and are incredibly proud of Tolu.

Among the crew who worked on the music video for ‘You Are Enough’ was Garret Daly, now living in Offaly, who was Director of Photography; Production Manager was Offaly local Deirdre Gallagher, and wardrobe was by Meritta Gorman Geoghegan, originally from Offaly, who now lives in Galway.

Also involved was local journalist and communications expert, Vivienne Clarke, actors Kemi Agbetuyi, Stella Ohia and Timmy Makay as well as a wonderful troupe of dancers from the Lorraine Wynne Midland Drama School, Ellie Garry, April Healy, Holly Moran, Ava Maher and Holly Arnold.

Tolu Makay’s latest release is taken from her debut EP, 'Being' which was released last October by the Berlin-based ‘Welcome To The New World’ record label, and can be viewed on YouTube.
