The late Marion Feehan of Ferbane AC.

Marion Feehan fondly remembered by Offaly athletics community

Offaly Athletics has led the tributes to the late Marion Feehan, who made a huge contribution to Ferbane AC and indeed to the sport in general.

The board of Offaly Athletics said it was "with great sadness" that it heard the news of Marion's passing.

"Marion was an integral part in the growth of Ferbane Athletic Club following on from the tremendous work of her father Hugo Smith, who served as chairman and secretary for many years," said a statement from Offaly Athletics.

"Marion was also a stalwart with Ferbane Community Games and contributed hugely to Offaly Athletics. She is remembered for her hard work within the athletic community but mostly for the encouragement and support she showed towards her fellow club mates and younger athletes.

"Our sincerest sympathies go to her husband Jude, sons Max and Deema, her mum Lucy, her sister Edel and her brother Noel. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dílis."

Marion was one of the chief organisers of the Hugo Smith memorial race in Ferbane, an event dedicated to the memory of her late father.

Marion worked as materials manager with Europharma Concepts Ltd in Clara where she was a very popular member of staff. She will be sadly missed by her colleagues in Europharma Concepts, and the company has extended sincere sympathy to her family and friends.

Tullamore Harriers AC has also paid tribute to Marion's contributions to athletics within her own club and further afield.

“Tullamore Harriers AC is deeply shocked and saddened upon hearing of the untimely passing of Ferbane AC stalwart Marion Feehan," said Tullamore Harriers chairman Adrian Curley.

"Marion, daughter of the late Hugo Smith, was immersed in athletics all her life. She was the driving force behind Ferbane AC, spotting and nurturing young athletes for many years. A talented athlete in her own right, she also excelled as an administrator and organiser."

On behalf of the committee and members of Tullamore Harriers, Adrian extended deepest sympathy to all members of Marion's family.

Marion Feehan (née Smith) of Ballyclare, Ferbane, Co. Offaly died peacefully last week at St. James's Hospital, Dublin.

Predeceased by her father Hugo and brother Gerard, Marion will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her loving husband Jude, sons Max and Deema, mother Lucy, brother Noel, sister Edel (Dolphin), nephews Liam, Calum and James, nieces Niamh, Grace, Ciara, Eimear, Allanah, Keira and Leonie, brother-in-law Sean, sisters-in-law Carmel, Sharon and Sandy, uncles, aunts, cousins and a wide circle of friends.
