Singer Dermot Kennedy sends message of love to family of brave Edenderry baby Dáire

As they prepare to lay their brave little boy to rest this week, the McDonnell family from Edenderry have thanked singer/songwriter, Dermot Kennedy, for the “lovely kind message” he sent to them on Friday evening last as they kept a bedside vigil for their youngest son at Crumlin Children’s Hospital.

Friends of the family had made the chart-topping singer know that his song, “Outnumbered” was Dáire’s favourite song and had been played at his bedside constantly over the last number of months as he underwent gruelling treatment for a rare bowel disease at a hospital in the UK.

The poignant song was also played at the brave Offaly one-year old’s bedside in Crumlin Children’s Hospital throughout last weekend where he lost his brave battle for life on Sunday last, March 28.

In his touching video message to Dáire and the McDonnell family, which was received by them on Friday last and has been posted on the “Our amazing fighter Dáire” Facebook page, Dermot Kennedy spoke of how he wanted to “reach out” to the family and send “love and all my best.”

He also spoke of the “incredibly tough time” that the family from Ballinakill were going through and thanked them for letting him know that his music had been “any kind of comfort” to them at such a devastating time in their lives. “Thank you for reaching out and I hope today is a good day” he added.

Meanwhile, funeral details have been announced for little Dáire, who left an indelible mark on the town of Edenderry and far beyond during his short life.

A family funeral will take place at 12 noon in St. Mary’s Church, Edenderry on Wednesday of this week, March 31, followed by private cremation at Lakelands Crematorium at approximately 3pm.
