Scoil Mhuire Naofa wins Climate Change Award at Offaly Community Recognition Awards

Fifth class students at Scoil Mhuire Naofa, Rhode, have won the Climate Change Award at the Offaly Community Recognition Awards for designing an outdoor classroom.

The awards, hosted by Offaly County Council in partnership with Offaly Independent, aim to acknowledge the outstanding community efforts that individuals and groups have delivered in Offaly over the past year.

There is no electricity in the planned garden classroom, which will be surrounded by plants such as lavender to attract bees and include a chicken coup to generate food.

The pupils also learned about global warming and a ‘Save Water’ Competition was held in the schools where pupils took photographs of ways they are saving water at home.

Runner up for the award was Clonbullogue Development Association.
