Jack McDermott wins Individual Impact Award at Community Recognition Awards

Jack McDermott from Tullamore has won the Individual Impact Award at the Offaly Community Recognition Awards for walking over 200km in February 2021, and raising €11,550 for Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin, in the process.

The awards, hosted by Offaly County Council in partnership with Offaly Independent, aim to acknowledge the outstanding community efforts that individuals and groups have delivered in Offaly over the past year.

Jack suffers from Bechet’s Syndrome, a rare auto-immune disease that results in the inflammation of the blood vessels and tissues.

He initially set himself the target of walking 150km during February before deciding that he would try to break the 200km barrier, which he did with a few days to spare.

Runner up for the award was Caroline Bryant from Mucklagh.
