Edenderry’s Danna lands role in Lyric Opera’s “Mikado”

An Edenderry-based drama and singing teacher is celebrating this week after landing a leading role in Lyric Opera Ireland’s production of the much-loved Gilbert and Sullivan comic opera, The Mikado.

Danna Davis, who also works professionally in theatre, plays the demanding role of Katisha in the production which will be live streamed from the National Concert Hall in Dublin tomorrow night (Thursday) at 7.30pm.

The lavish production by Lyric Opera features some of the most talented up and coming young Irish opera singers, as well as seasoned professionals such as Joe Conlon from the Gaiety Panto.

The 26 musicians and 20 singers on stage in the National Concert Hall tomorrow night will all be adhering to Covid protocols, and Danna Davis was delighted to get the opportunity to play a leading role in the production after a very challenging 18 months for the arts and entertainment industry.

The talented Edenderry singer and drama teacher believes the Irish live music and performance arts sector is “in crisis” at the moment, and audiences are needed to support the artists and to keep the performance arts sector “afloat and alive” as they wait for Covid restrictions to be lifted.
