Local singer releases new folk album

A local singer has released a new folk album.

Emer Dunne, grew up in Mountmellick, and attended school in Tullamore, before moving to Dublin, where she studied primary teaching.

She is currently job sharing at St Ciaran’s NS, Boher, Ballycumber.

Her new album 'Hourglass' is now available and sees her voice soaring to new heights

Dunne has had a packed career already from singing at the Celtic Ball in Rome at the tender age of 10, all across Europe and Japan with an Irish dance troupe to her own shows in the UK, Netherlands, Germany and back home

Although hindered from live performances, 2021 has also seen Emer rise on the folk music scene.

Featuring on RTE Television's ‘Today’ show and releasing two singles, ‘Daisy’ and ‘Wild Mountain Thyme’, this songstress has had a very successful year. Both singles went to no 1 in the Irish iTunes charts, received national and regional airplay and wonderful feedback. All this, alongside a wonderfully produced and moving music video for her beautiful rendition of the well loved 'Wild Mountain Thyme' is gaining Emer the recognition she deserves.

Emer has many accolades from being commended by Leonard Cohen's management team for her version of 'Hallelujah', cited as one of their favourite versions of the song, to performing for the Japanese and American Ambassadors. She has shared the stage with some of the greats including Phil Coulter, The Fureys, The Irish Tenors, John Spillane and many more.

Delving into her folk roots, ‘Hourglass’, brings an array of timeless and deeply rooted folk songs to the listener. When you bring musicians of the calibre of Gavin Murphy (Celtic Woman), Jason Duffy (The Corrs) and James Blennerhassett (Nathan Carter) among other wonderful musicians and combine them with a natural vocal talent and a highly skilled producer, Bill Shanley (Mary Black) then the result is a smooth blend of creativity and musical magic. Emer stays true to the essence of songs like ‘Shenandoah’ and ‘Come by the Hills’ embedded in our consciousness while still giving them a fresh Sound.

If you enjoy a rich voice and fresh musical arrangements then this album is for you.
