Renowned musician's River Brosna-inspired work to be performed in Ferbane

The Brosna Suite, a new musical composition by renowned jazz musician Carole Nelson, is to premiere at Gallen Community School in Ferbane this Saturday afternoon (October 30).

The performance was announced by Ferbane Tidy Towns, and takes place at 3pm on Saturday.

Carole Nelson is an award winning and internationally acclaimed composer and performer based in Ireland.

She has composed a suite for piano that tells the story of the River Brosna – from its journey rising in Bun Brosna, close to Lough Owel, to its confluence with the River Shannon at Shannon Harbour.

During the performance we meet the natural world, and the people of the river, their history, stories and love for the river. We follow Carole's own journey as she explored the river and met people from the towns and villages along the Brosna.

While Carole’s background is in jazz and improvised music, she has invited local musicians to join her, weaving together different musical traditions. She is due to be joined by guest performers Ciarán Guinan, Brosna Foróige Singers, Tommy Minnock and Aoibhinn Molloy Roche.

The Brosna Suite is funded by Creative Ireland. It is part of Ferbane’s ‘Green Infrastructure Strategy’ and the ‘Brosna Relay – Connecting Communities’ project, which are initiatives of Ferbane Tidy Towns, and supported by Offaly County Council Heritage.

The event is free, but a ticket is required. Places are limited and on a first-come first-served basis.
