Ardan housing development turned down

Offaly County Council has turned down a bid for planning permission for 60 new homes at Ardan Road in Tullamore.

Applicant Sheila Doorley submitted proposals for the development, a mix of houses and apartments, back in July.

What was earmarked for the site, close to the town, was a total of 12 one-bed apartments, 16 two-bedroom terraced houses and 28 three-bedroom semi-detached homes.

Another three-bed detached dwellings, with two four-bedroom semi-detached homes and a five-bed detached house made up the total.

Each home would have an option for a solar panel on the roof, according to the planning documents, while two car parking spaces were set aside for each home.

A new distributor road also formed part of the housing scheme application, running from the existing roundabout and spur road at Ardan Road to the southern boundary of the site.

Private amenity space, landscaped public open space and public lighting were also provided for in the application which was turned down on October 28 last.

Offaly County Council has yet to publish the reasons for the refusal verdict on their website, as of this afternoon today (Wednesday).
