Offaly Greens pay tribute to Geashill for Tidy Towns award

The Tidy Towns award for Ireland’s Tidiest Village to Geashill has been welcomed by local Green Party politicians.

“This is a tremendous credit to the local Tidy Towns Committee who have put so much effort into making Geashill look beautiful,” said Minister Pippa Hackett. “The committee has been commended for its understanding and application of sustainable development goals.”

Minister Hackett and her husband Cllr. Mark Hackett live on a farm just outside the village.

“There’s a wonderful community in Geashill and it’s a lovely place to raise a family,” says Cllr. Hackett. “Great credit is due to the team of volunteers. This win isn’t just for how the village looks, it’s a win for the heart and spirit of the place.”

The Green Party politicians also praised Ballycumber for winning an Endeavour Awards, for the biggest increase in points from last year, and to Clonbullogue and Tullamore for coming second and third respectively in the County Offaly Awards.

They also welcomed the announcement by Minister Heather Humphreys of €1.5m to be distributed among all Tidy Towns groups for 2022.
