Rain followed by sunny spells and scattered showers

Weather Update

Rain will move eastwards across the country this morning and early afternoon and will be followed by sunny spells and scattered showers. Highest afternoon temperatures will range between 5 and 11 degrees, northeast to southwest. Light to moderate south to southwest winds will become west to northwest and increase moderate to fresh, as the rain clears.

Tonight there will be clear spells and scattered showers. Some showers will be of hail and there will be sleet at higher elevations. Lowest temperatures of 0 to 4 degrees in a moderate to fresh westerly wind.

Friday will be cold with sunny spells and scattered showers of rain or hail, with sleet possible on high ground. The showers will be most frequent in the west and north and will become isolated by early evening. Cloud will increase in the west and southwest later with patchy drizzle possible near the coast. Afternoon temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees in a moderate to fresh west to northwest wind.

Cloudy with outbreaks of rain and drizzle moving eastwards across the country on Friday night. Coldest early in the night with minimum temperatures of 1 to 6 degrees, lowest in the northeast. Light southerly winds, increasing moderate to fresh in the west and northwest later.

Saturday morning and early afternoon will be cloudy and wet with hill and coastal fog. Drier and clearer weather will then develop across Connacht, Ulster and north Leinster, although there may be some showers in the northwest. The rain will become lighter and patchier in the south too. It will be milder than previous days with highest afternoon temperatures of 9 to 13 degrees, in a moderate south to southwest wind.

Early on Saturday night, it will be cloudy in the south with patchy rain or drizzle, but in the north there will be clear spells and just some showers in the northwest. Cloud will increase countrywide overnight and rain will push into the south and west. Lowest temperatures of 5 to 10 degrees, north to south, with light to moderate southerly winds.

Sunday is forecast to be cloudy and breezy with rain in most areas, heaviest in the west and north. Mild with afternoon temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees in a fresh to strong southerly wind.

Mostly cloudy with further outbreaks of rain overnight on Sunday. Mild and breezy early in the night with fresh to strong south to southwest winds, but winds will ease overnight and it will become colder. Minimum temperatures 4 to 7 degrees.

At the moment it looks like rain will affect the southeast on Monday, with drier and brighter weather elsewhere. Turning colder with afternoon temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees, in light and variable breezes.
