Smullen features on injured jockeys' calendar for 2022

The late, great Pat Smullen features on the Irish Injured Jockeys (IIJ) calendar for 2022.

A photograph of the renowned Offaly jockey, taken by Patrick McCann of the Racing Post, features on the calendar for the month of September.

Smullen won the Irish flat racing champion jockey title nine times in the course of a glittering racing career.

The Rhode man died last year after a brave battle with pancreatic cancer, during which he helped to raise considerable funds for cancer research. Smullen's sporting profile also helped to create awareness around issues relating to cancer.

The jockeys’ charity has produced a 2022 calendar featuring 12 stunning racing photos, capturing many special racing moments.

Calendars cost €15 and and are available to purchase from retail partners - TRI Equestrian Superstores, in the Curragh, Co. Kildare and in Lurgan, Co. Armagh or on their website (www.triequestrian.ie). They are also on sale in Berney Brothers Saddlery in Kilcullen, Co. Kildare.

The IIJ has also produced Christmas cards, designed by renowned equine artist Peter Curling, that come in two versions – one with a personalised message and company logo. There is also a generic version that come in quantities of ten and are available to purchase for €12 from IIJ retail partners.

Ruby Walsh, Irish Injured Jockeys chairman, said: "By purchasing our striking Christmas cards and calendar, you are supporting the work of the Irish Injured Jockeys as we continue to make a real difference to the lives and welfare of jockeys, past and present and their families by raising funds to provide enhanced help, care and support."

Walsh also thanked Peter Curling and all the racing photographers "who shared their creativity and talent with us so generously".
