JYSK set to open Athlone outlet

Known to many in the retail trade as Denmark's answer to IKEA, the news that JYSK is set to open an Athlone outlet is sure to excite local shoppers and fans of Scandi chic.

While a company spokesperson was unable to confirm details of where and when at this time, she did confirm JYSK is coming to Athlone, hot on the heels of another store opening in Thurles earlier this month.

The popular Scandinavian chain, known for affordable homewares, bedding and furniture, advertised online in recent days for a store manager and deputy store manager for an Athlone store.

Founded in 1979 by Lars Larsen in Aarhus, Denmark, JYSK is one of the fastest-growing retail chains in Europe. Now operating in over 50 countries, it boasts more than 3,000 stores worldwide, including 15 in Ireland.

Its only store in the Midlands is in Portlaoise. Last year, it opened six new stores in Ireland.

At the end of 2021, the Danish company said that it may open up to ten new stores in Ireland over the following year, and eventually open 50.
