Offaly singer-songwriter nominated for prestigious Ivor Novello Rising Star Award

Ferbane singer Luz Corrigan has been nominated for the Ivor Novello Rising Star Award.

She will compete in this category against R&B and pop act Naomi Kimpenu, jazz musician Ashaine White and singer-songwriter Matilda Mann.

The Ivors Academy said: "Talent always knows talent, and despite her tender years, Luz’s songwriting skills have already been recognised by the best in the business.

"The Irish teenager has won support slots with Freya Ridings and Lewis Capaldi, while her emotive originals and strikingly original covers have been endorsed by Ed Sheeran, Dua Lipa and Dermot Kennedy. Meanwhile, mesmerising songs such as We’ll Be Fine and Permanent +1 have helped her amass over 60 million streams. Next stop is surely stardom to equal some of her admirers."

Luz spoke about the nomination stating "I feel very honoured to be one of this years Rising Star nominees especially alongside four incredible women."

Luz's recent singles 'Permanent +1', 'the author', 'counting houses', 'christmas morning', 'i'm lonely', 'i'll be fine' and more captured the imagination of audiences worldwide. She has previously opened up for Dean Lewis at Vicar Street.

Luz’s first four singles, released during lockdown, have been streamed over 40 million times across DSPs. Last year she covered a rendition of Dua Lipa’s 'Don’t Start Now' on TikTok which gained almost 10 million views on the social media platform.

The video for the talented singer's cover of Dermot Kennedy's song 'Lost' currently has over 170,000 views. Her song, 'The Author' was featured on the reality TV series, 'Love Island' last summer which has an audience of 2.6 million people in the UK.

The Ivor Novello awards ceremony, which celebrates songwriting and composition, will be held at Grosvenor House in London on Thursday, May 19. Big names in the music industry such as Adele, Dave, FKA Twigs, Raye, James Blake and Ed Sheeran have also earned Ivor Novello Award nominations.
