Dining room extension plan for Offaly hotel

Plans for an extension to the dining room of the County Arms Hotel in Birr have been submitted to Offaly County Council. The hotel's owner, Canbe Limited, is seeking permission for a number of works, including a new dining room extension to the north at first floor level.

Documents submitted with the planning application describe the dining room extension as “a necessary addition to the resident dining facilities in the hotel”. The proposal is for a new single-storey vaulted ceiling dining room with glazed apex.

The expanded dining facilities are designed to provide additional dining area for residents and an opportunity for non-residents to dine at the hotel.

The County Arms Hotel was built as Moor Park House in circa 1830 and is a protected structure. Other planned works include the addition of a pond feature to the hotel, new ground floor terraces to the east of the hotel bedroom block and the replacement of an existing sloped second floor roof with a flat roof.

A decision on the plan is due by June 14.
