Hackett welcomes new school facilities taking shape

Offaly Minister Pippa Hackett has welcomed the new facilities taking shape at St Mary's Secondary School, Edenderry.

"It was an honour to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony on phase one of the new extension and sports field development of St Mary's Secondary School in Edenderry. It’s wonderful to see these exciting new facilities taking shape for the school," the Minister of State, with responsibility for Land Use and Biodiversity, commented.

"Sport and physical activity are so important, particularly for our young people. Growing up nowadays is not easy and filled with many challenges, and having access to sporting facilities can only be a good thing.

"It''s great to see that the wider community has been involved in this development, and this inclusion of the local community will serve to make these facilities something all in Edenderry can benefit from.

"It’s indicative of the ambition and drive of the whole school community - its school management board, chaired by Marian Corcoran; its school principal, Emmet McDonnell, and former principal Rob Halford; and of course, the vision of Fr PJ McEvoy.

"The delivery of a technology room, science lab, classrooms, and office, recreation and social space, as well as some state of the art sports facilities is very welcome news," the Green Minister of State ended.
