Birr to host Colour Carnival next weekend

Fresh from the success of a similar event in Tullamore this weekend, The Colour Carnival will be hosted in Birr next weekend, it has been announced.

The Colour Carnival is taking place from midday in Emmet Square on Sunday, June 12. This colourful and dynamic festival is an opportunity for people to come together and celebrate the return of live music, theatre, comedy and the arts. Cathaoirleach of Birr Municipal District, Cllr Peter Ormond outlined: “The Colour Carnival is a celebration of Irish arts and culture featuring the very best of national and local artists.”

The headline shows will include a fantastic entertainment line-up of live music performances and much, much more! Acts will include Ireland’s Classic Funk 7-piece band “Thank Funk” who will bring their larger than life stage presence to Birr town.

The “Kids Corner” is a crafty and creative space for children explore arts, technology and engineering with our educational robotics showcase. The programme will also present the ultimate in Street Theatre entertainment with the hilarious Mime Artist Marcel, “don’t listen to a word he says”!

“Incredible local artists will also be showcasing their talents and bringing a weekend of pure joy attracting both locals and visitors to Birr for a shared cultural experience. This event in Birr follows on from the Colour Carnival in Tullamore and will also visit Edenderry later this month,” added Cathaoirleach of Offaly County Council, Cllr Declan Harvey.

Chief Executive of Offaly County Council, Ms Anna Marie Delaney said the events are funded by the Local Live Performance Programming Scheme Phase 3, Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media and supported by Offaly County Council, in association with Aidan Shortall of Up Close & Personal Promotions.

Emmet Square will be closed to all vehicles on June 12 making it a safe space for this free event. Come along and join the fun!
