Offaly homeowners affected by Mica must be supported says local TD

Following reports of possible Mica in Offaly, local Fianna Fáil TD, Barry Cowen, recently made contact with the Minister for Housing, Darragh O'Brien, to address these concerns.

Deputy Cowen said, "Following reports that this issue is present in houses in Co. Offaly, I asked Minister O'Brien to provide clarity as to whether the homes affected would qualify for redress under the Defective Concrete Blocks Grant Scheme.''

"I understand that any consideration of an extension to the scheme would, in the first instance, require Offaly County Council to conduct the same rigorous analysis as that was carried out in Donegal and Mayo.''

Minister O'Brien stated that "It would be necessary for the local authority to take a lead role in providing the evidential data required to support a submission and provide an estimate of the likely number of homes which may be impacted within the county.''

Deputy Cowen will now supply Offaly County Council with the relevant detail to progress this issue further.
