WATCH: Shane Lowry shows his support for 'slow down' road safety campaign

Shane Lowry is one of a number of high-profile sportspeople who have taken to social media this week to support a campaign encouraging people to drive more slowly and safely.

Ahead of this weekend's Irish Open, the 35-year-old Clara man recorded a short video on the subject and shared it on his Twitter and Facebook accounts.

He pointed out that 83 people had already lost their lives on Irish roads in 2022, and said many of these tragedies could have been prevented by avoiding distractions while driving, and by slowing down.

The online campaign has seen similar road safety messages being recorded and shared by the likes of former world champion boxer Barry McGuigan, former Irish soccer internationals Paul McGrath and John O'Shea, former Tipperary hurler Padraic Maher, and members of the Dublin camogie team.
