Open day at Farmers Journal farm in Tullamore

The Irish Farmers Journal is hosting a National Open Day on its beef and sheep demo farm in Tullamore next Tuesday (July 26) supported by AXA Smart Farm Insurance.

The open day will run from 10.30am to 5pm with FREE entry and parking (register at www.ifj.ie/tullamorefarm).

The day will feature farm tours, trade stands and workshops.

There will also be a full financial breakdown of the 2021 performance of the farm and the effect that the next CAP reform will have.

A seminar on the future of the Irish beef industry will be held at 3pm with an industry-led panel, followed by a Q&A.

On arrival visitors will walk the open day route taking in stands and talks from Irish Farmers Journal specialists on the farm’s financial performance in 2021, breeding and animal performance on the farm, the sheep system performance, grassland management which will include details on our multispecies and red clover swards and how we will incorporate these new swards into our management system in the future.

The farm has been working closely with the Irish Farmers Journal’s sustainability specialist Siobhan Walsh on how it can hit sustainability targets and improve biodiversity. Soil fertility will be covered in detail by Andy Doyle and we will also have static stands on animal health, machinery maintenance, health and safety, beef research and much more in the yard area. Food and refreshments will also be available in the yard area during the day.
