Views sought on Offaly property tax adjustment

Offaly County Council is seeking public views on the issue of possible variations in the local property tax for 2023 and 2024.

The council will meet on September 19 to consider the setting of what is known as the local adjustment factor.

The Finance (Local Property Tax) Act 2012 (as amended), allows elected members of a local authority to vary the basic rate of the Local Property Tax for their administrative area by a percentage known as the local adjustment factor.

At the meeting, the councillors may set a local adjustment factor within the range of +/- 15% of the basic rate, or, may decide not to adjust the basic rate.

In July 2021, the council varied the basic rate of local property tax upwards by 15% for the year 2022.

The council is now seeking written submission from the public, “specifically covering the potential effects of varying the basic rate of the Local Property Tax on businesses, individuals and on Local Authority services.”

Submissions must be received by August 31 and can be sent to LPT Submission, Offaly County Council, Arás an Chontae, Charleville Road, Tullamore, Co. Offaly or E-mail submissions to: lpt@offalycoco.ie
