Major drugs seizure in Athlone

As part of routine operations, Revenue officers examining parcels in Athlone seized various types of illegal drugs, worth an estimated €150,000 today (Thursday, August 8).

The drugs were discovered concealed in three parcels that originated in the Netherlands and were destined for addresses in Carlow and Dublin.

The haul seized includes over 1 kg of ecstasy, 1 kg of ketamine and 0.8 kg of MDMA. Smaller quantities of cocaine, herbal cannabis, cannabis resin and micro-dosing ‘magic’ truffles were also discovered..

Investigations are ongoing, according to a statement from Revenue.

They say this latest seizure is part of their ongoing operations targeting the importation of illegal drugs.
